The LocationThis position is based in a medical office or clinic setting.
About this PositionThe Orthotic Fitter will report directly to the DME Account Manager and is a member of Graymont's Orthotic Fitter team. The incumbent is accountable for fitting patients with orthotic braces and devices as prescribed by a physician, for applying and removing casts and splints, and for completing all administrative workflow tasks aligned to the patient care process. The incumbent will confidently explain product benefits, know which devises are preferred by physicians, and when the opportunity presents, offer additional products to patients that can benefit their recovery and day-to-day activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:Providing patient care to include:

  • Fitting patients with orthotic devices
  • Instructing patients and caregivers on how to properly fit and use devices as prescribed by a physician (don and doff)
  • Applying and/or removing casts from patients
  • Applying splits on patients
  • Anticipating patients' needs and offering additional products to benefit their healing process and day-to-day activities
  • Communicating health insurance coverage to the patientCompleting patient care process-related administrative tasks to include:
    • Gather and request information from the physician to facilitate insurance coverage
    • Recording detailed clinical notes for patient records
    • Communicate with patients, providers, and/or staff regarding orthotic devices, scheduling, troubleshooting, and general questions via phone
    • Adhering to HIPPA guidelines
    • Tracking, maintaining, and reordering product inventory for locations (as needed)
    • Processing payments for devices to include insurance coverage verification and all necessary documentation and pre-authorization per payer requirements
    • Support and provide backup to fellow Fitter team members (such as new hires, covering for scheduling needs, etc.)
    • Perform other duties as requested

        Required Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.         Education and/or Experience:
        • High School Diploma or equivalent
        • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the health care industry
        • ROT certification
        • Preferred: A background in anatomy, kinesiology, and/or exercise science
        • Preferred: COF certification
          • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to learn and effectively apply new learnings
          • Demonstrated professional maturity; able to read people and situations while maintaining composure and a sense of professionalism
          • Demonstrated ability to show compassion towards others; excellent and effective listening skills
          • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills

          • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform work and achieve goals in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
            • For candidates who do not have COF certification, Graymont requires obtaining the certification within 12 months of employment to include on-the-job experience and passing the exam. Graymont will fund the certification process.
            • Must be able to work flexible hours aligned to physicians' schedules; includes evenings and weekends.
            • May be required to travel to various clinic locations. (Note: Miles between locations are reimbursed.)
              Preferred Qualifications:
              • Previous experience working with billing and payment processing systems
              • Previous experience providing superior patient care
              • Previous experience with casting and/or bracing
                Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this role, the Fitter is required to:
                • Walk, stoop, reach with arms and hands, talk, and hear
                • Ability to safely lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
                • Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time - up to and exceeding 8 hours per day
                • High level of hand strength (gross manipulation) to hold, grasp, turn, mold, tighten, adjust, operate, and otherwise perform work with the hands). This includes situations such as but not limited to pulling apart a pair of high-level compression socks and using a saw-like machine to remove a cast
                • High level of finger dexterity and strength (fine manipulation) to touch, pinch, and perform tasks primarily with fingers. This includes situations such as but not limited to adjusting brace straps, pulling products up legs, casting/splinting
                  Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job, and reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
                  While performing the duties of this job, the Fitter is placed in a comfortable healthcare facility setting for approximately 100% of the work time. The noise level in the health care facilities environment is usually minimal.Work requires direct contact with patients.
