Job Description:
We are looking for an ambitious and driven software engineering
manager to join the Illustrations team at Northwestern Mutual. You
will manage and lead a team of engineers to build and deliver
systems that enable sales for our field force. The engineering
manager will partner closely with business and product areas to set
timelines, negotiate requirements and design and deliver systems
and features. The ideal candidate can come up with simple solutions
to complex problems and set the example for the rest of the team by
directly contributing to deliverables. Leadership and Team
Management: - Lead, mentor, and manage a team of skilled software
engineers and testers, providing guidance and support to help them
achieve their professional goals. - Foster a culture of innovation,
encouraging team members to explore new technologies and
approaches. UI Development and Delivery: - Oversee the development
and enhancement of the user interface for Illustrations using React
and the proprietary Luna toolkit. - Ensure timely updates and bug
fixes for existing UI components, adapting or creating new
components when necessary. Testing and Quality Assurance: -
Implement and maintain comprehensive Jest and Playwright tests to
ensure code functionality and integration stability. - Leverage
Dynatrace for performance monitoring and optimization. Deployment
and DevOps: - Manage deployments to integration, quality assurance,
and production environments in AWS. - Implement and maintain CI/CD
pipelines to automate deployments and ensure compliance with
security standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration: - Collaborate
with cross-functional teams, including Digital Product
representatives, to define and execute engineering strategies
aligned with business objectives. - Communicate effectively with
stakeholders, providing updates on project progress and addressing
any challenges. Process Optimization: - Optimize engineering
processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity. -
Evaluate team knowledge and strengths to create professional
development goals and opportunities for growth. Diversity and

required to be successful in this role - JavaScript, NodeJS, React
- Automated testing: unit, integration, regression (Jest and/or
Playwright) - GraphQL - Writing & consuming RESTful APIs - Docker -
Git - CI/CD experience (we use gitlabCI) - Proven experience in
software engineering and team leadership, with a track record of
successful project delivery. - Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively
across departments. - Commitment to diversity and inclusion, with

Problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex

Dynatrace - Kubernetes - AWS terraforming - Github or gitlab -
Previous experience in the Financial Services sector (investments,
insurance, banking, payroll systems) - Strong leadership skills,
with the ability to inspire and motivate a team. - Demonstrated
ability to optimize processes and drive continuous improvement.
Education / Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,
Engineering, or an equivalent field - 5 years experience Core

success. Milestones Within first month, while working with
engineers on the teams, be able to jump head-first into new
applications and ask the appropriate questions / do the appropriate
research to identify the general functions and behaviors of the
system. Begin contributing to minor backlog items. Within first 3
months, have proficient knowledge of the baseline applications and
be able to take the reins around backlog items and appropriately
spec and develop code to contribute directly to the GIT
repositories. Be able to dive into the overall application
distribution architectures and navigate the environments in which
they run. Within first 6 months, be able to navigate the full stack
of the applications and supporting components, contributing
directly to engineering discussions that affect the current and
future state of the applications. Essentially, contributing to the
team at your full capacity. Compensation Range: Pay Range - Start:
$123,480.00 Pay Range - End: $229,320.00 Geographic Specific Pay
Structure: 220 - Structure 110: 135,800.00 USD - 252,200.00 USD 220
- Structure 115: 142,030.00 USD - 263,770.00 USD We believe in
