Director Information Technology Application Development
Company: Rsm Solutions Inc

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Tom. If you have read
my job descriptions before, you will know that I like to add a
little humor to them from time to time....I will be doing that here
as well (so, if you see something that makes you chuckle, that was
the intent). If you have never heard of me or are new to my job
descriptions, welcome to the dance.
I am Partner & VP at RSM Solutions Inc. About 99% of my time is
spent 'customer facing'...that being said, there are no layers
between me and any of my clients, and I will be far more interested
in 'fit' than anything else...a 'fit' for you and a 'fit' for the
For this role, you will be working with one of my closest friends
(we have been friends for roughly 9-10 years or so). He is the VP
of IT for this firm. There are a few things you should know about
him...he is fair, but direct. Honest to a fault and has more
integrity than most VP's I know. He will not micro manage you and
their is an expectation that you put your big boy and big girl
This is not an environment for 'social media influencers' or people
with the ego the size of Montana. So, it is an environment where
there isn't much in the way of drama. You will be working with a
smaller team, so that experience working with a smaller team will
really be something they are seeking...it isn't monumentally
important that you have experience with a smaller team, but that
would be certainly great to see. You all know what the differences
are from having a team of 25 verses having a team of 6...they are
There are some major tasks ahead of you in this role. Here are the
- Implementation of a true eCommerce platform. They do have one,
currently, but it is custom developed for the most part. They are,
potentially, looking at Magento, for their eCommerce Platform. They
are seeking someone who has experience with implementations of
eCommerce Platforms, including fun stuff like credit card
processing, to the architecture of those eCommerce platforms, and
integration points within existing systems for this client.
- The implementation of enterprise architectural standards. The
Vp of IT for this firm is really needing someone to implement and
work with enterprise architectural design standards. They are kind
of in a place right now where they have to replace the entire
kitchen if they want to replace the sink. So, they are looking for
someone to come in and implement some of that consistency in
development standards and that velocity in feature enhancements to
their overall custom development space. From a custom development
point of view, they have a mix of .net, ColdFusion and Access (yes,
access). From an ERP point of view, they run JDE (however, JDE is
not really a part of the scope of this role...EDI, MES and ERP are
directed by another individual). Think of this part of the role as
a real need for SOA standards.
- The ability to work with external vendors in an effective
manner. This may sound simple, but these guys have a legacy of
doing a ton of its work in house. We need someone who can
effectively work with external vendors. For example, the eCommerce
piece...a significant portion of that project will be done in house
from a design point of view...however, a portion of that
implementation and integration will need to be outsourced. Another
example, is the world of PIM. Today, these guys have three PIMs
(yep, three...), and they were all developed in house. One of them
is in .net, one is in ColdFusion and one is in Access. A portion of
this project will need to be outsourced. The effective management
of external vendors will be needed here...and that knowledge base
of what can be done internally and what realistically needs to be
outsourced is needed for this role. We are not seeking someone that
outsources everything (you know the type...the kind of person that
believes they have a totally open checkbook ..someone that every
vendor on the planet calls 1,000 times a day), but someone who
knows when to outsource and when to do things internally.
This role IS being done onsite in Skokie, Illinois. So, nope...this
role is NOT a remote role. If you are located in Houston, Texas,
that would be fine as well (they have a major office in Houston).
We are really only seeking candidates that already in the Greater
Chicagoland or Greater Houston area.
This company is growing by about 15% a year and currently has
around $850M in annual revenues (when the Vp of IT joined the firm
a number of years ago, they had about $175M in annual revenues...so
they are growing at a steady clip). They do have firms that do have
a private equity influence...Goldman is one of them. The senior
leadership of the firm handles that, but it is something I want to
be sure to mention. The median in terms of annual comp for this
role is $165k (if you need up to 200k for a base, that would be
fine...but once we start getting over that amount for a base,
things get a little dicey). There is an annual bonus of about $20k
