Job Description StorSafe is an ever expanding self-storage management company with a portfolio of assets in the Midwest and Florida. Purpose of Position The purpose of the Controller position is to manage the overall processes of the accounting department for StorSafe self storage. They will streamline budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting. They will produce thorough financial-status reports for Leadership to help improve operational efficiency and aid in the Company---s growth. Essential Duties and Responsibilities -- Evaluating, planning, and managing department functions to ensure proper controls, accurate accounting, and sound financial decisions. -- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements -- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics -- Hiring, training, developing, and retaining skilled accounting staff -- Conducting audits and providing information to external auditors. -- Preparing thorough and detailed budgets -- Managing the department to achieve budget objectives. -- Preparing financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. -- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying new and existing legislation. -- Continual assessment of current operations, implementing improvements when needed. -- Providing leadership with information vital to future planning and decision making. -- Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed -- Ensuring the confidentiality of all financial information. -- Other duties as assigned Education and Experience -- Bachelor---s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field. -- Minimum 5-10 years--- experience in accounting/finance -- Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas. -- Experience with financial reporting requirements -- 5 years--- experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager -- CPA highly preferred or Master---s degree Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -- Understanding of economic principles, financial markets, and banking. -- Understanding of financial data analysis and reporting. -- Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. -- Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority setting skills. -- Proven experience in financial project management. -- Advanced computer skills, specifically in Excel. -- Must be able to communicate financial information into sound business language Physical Requirements -- Light: Able to lift up to 15 pounds maximum and occasionally lift and/or carry such articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary to carry out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
